With the enhancement of the performance of the weapon system, New more especial requirements are imposed on the design. How to improve the aerodynamic performance of the weapon system is more and more critical in the design process. Conformal optics is one of the solutions to this problem. In missile optics, ellipsoid domes are adopted, which has larger ratio of length to diameter than conventional hemispherical domes. With the application of the conformal optics, the significantly increased speed and range of the missile benefit from the significant reduction of aerodynamic drag. And at the same time, the radar cross section of the missile is also reduced. But the conformal dome is of high gradient, and its curvature varies remarkably across the section. These make the traditional manufacturing method for slightly gradient mirror not suitable to conformal optics components. Therefore, the manufacturing method has become one of the obstacles in application of conformal optics. In this dissertation, the shaping principle which is based on the ellipse generator and its error model are thoroughly studied. The main contents include:1. Based on the property of conic surfaces of rotational symmetry, using the method of coordinate transform, the shaping principle is studied. The relation between the parameters of the tool and those of the object mirror is also discussed. Design methods for point-contact and line-contact manufacturing method are presented based on the shape principle.2. Based on the least square principle, using the infinitesimal transformation method, the error model of this manufacturing method is studied on the surface's local structure. The error of the model derived from one-order infinitesimal analysis is also studied. The error model is applied to identify the processing error, and the identification algorithm is presented.3. Based on the theory of abrasive wear, and with some assumptions, the material removal model of line-contact manufacturing is presented. Then the flow sheet of the process simulation is given. The algorithm to calculate the distance between the tool and the workpiece is studied, and also is its error. Based on the calculated error of distance, the discretization method of workpiece and tool is proposed with uniformal accuracy.. At last, this model is used to study the influence of process parameters on the results.4. A mechanism based on the ellipse generator is designed, according to the redsults obtained in the previous chapters. Details are given to the the fine tuning component and the driving method.
