| According to the problems of evaluating the road performance of the SBS modified asphalt with the Chinese Road Modified Asphalt Technical Standards using currently, lots of SHRP rheological experiments and conventional experiments are acted with different conditions. In this paper, three base asphalt types representing three oil sources and six modifiers (three line types and three star types) are processed. This paper discusses the differences between base asphalt and SBS modified asphalt, and analyzes the characteristics of the SBS modified asphalt and its impacting factors on the aspects of high and low temperature performances.It is no obvious difference between the types of the line modified asphalt and the star modified asphalt under certain condition. With the rigorous experiment condition (descreasing the temperature of the low temperature performance experiments, increasing the temperature of the high temperature performance experiments etc.), the differences between different modifiers are becoming clearer and the performance of the star type modified asphalt is better than that of the line type modified asphalt. The aging test indicates that the performance changes of modified asphalt in a certain aging course can not reflect the performance changes in the whole one.The experimental characteristics of modified asphalt and the modification mechanism are analyzed in the paper to provide the certain theories for effective modifications and reasonable applications to asphalt engineering. |
