With the development of seismic technicals and theories, a kind of new building structure system owning tune force is being investigated further. Mega-sub controlled structure system, abbreviated as MSCSS in the following text, which is studied in this paper, is an important branch in this domain.In order to solve some problems in MSCSS ,such as the collision between mega-structure and sub-structure ,oversize acceleration value of sub-structure and so on, dampers of energy dissipation should be set between mega-structure and sub-structure.First, considering the special laying characteristic of MSCSS, a sort of liquid damper named modulating liquid damper that can minish the length endlong, modulate dampering force and resolve the jammed problem that brought by the oxidation of viscous liquid are proposed and designed in this paper. Then through analysis to the damper in the theory, the expression between damping force and velocity and interior parameters of the damper are put forward. Meanwhile, the relations between curves of damping force-velocity and the quantity of damping bores are discussed detailedly. the conclusions as follows: the slope of the damping force-velocity curve becomes more bigger as the quantity of damping bores are reduced, contrarily, become more smaller. All these testify the effectual and adjustable property of this kind of damper.Finally, this paper comparatively analyses the response of MSCSS before and after installation of the modulating liquid damper under stochastic wind or earthshock, and studys the impact law of appending damp to the new sturcture. some conclusions are gained as follows:Appending damp in MSCSS are not the best when it is the biggest, instead, hold optimized value subjected to exterior stochastic force. Appropriate appending damp does not change the tune force function of MSCSS. The dynamic response of MSCSS can be depressed further, which is specially evident in the sub-structure, after the additive damp is choosed properly.All these prove that MSCSS possesses excellent function of self-shock-absorption and liquid damper makes very important effect for it.
