With the development of the logistic and science, all kinds of container transport ships have become bigger and bigger, so the requirements for the port crane are very exigent. We require the port crane to have more rise capacity, longer outside distance, higher rise height, and lighter weight, bigger working space. But also ask for the trolley and the gantry have high speed.The developing tendency of the port crane is macro-scale, speedup, automation and intelligence. If the dynamic character of the crane is not so good, the efficiency of the will be low. So the requirement of the crane's dynamic characteristics is very hard, and that enterprises take more care of the crane dynamics. So, how to meet the dynamic requirements when design a crane, or how to ameliorate and optimize the dynamic characteristics of a designed crane, those research approaches have meaning both in economic worth and practical value.In this paper, I take a container crane that Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co., Ltd build for the Miami port as a model, I combine the classical mechanics with the dynamics theory, put forward a energy method to analyze the structure's stiffness. So we find a new way to meliorate structure's dynamic characteristics. By this means, I analyze the dynamic characteristics and stiffness of similar crane. Under the principle of meet the requirement of the crane, by the means of change the structure of the crane, or change the section of main structure, I discuss the influence of those methods on the crane. So I get some useful conclusion.In the analysis process, I adopts the FEM software ANSYS to complete calculations of whole crane and some parts of the crane. ANSYS have powerful calculating and post processing capability and can emulate crane practical work, its convenient to optimize crane dynamic characteristics by partly modifying the crane structure. It makes dynamics and work efficiency be in an optimum state.In this paper, I use the above-mentioned model and the modified model, discussed the similar cranes' maximum stress, the horizontal direction stiffness, maximum displacement, the natural frequency of the structure etc. with the research of those question, can find a way that optimize the crane's dynamic characteristics. So give a theoretical foundation of the similar crane's structuredesign and it's modification.
