Quayside container cranes are easily attacked by typhoon or paroxysmal fitful wind because of the big windward area and the high center of gravity. such accidents not only influence the normal production order of the port directly but also cause the great economic loses to port enterprise, and furthermore also cause serious casualties. So it's necessary to do research on the windproof measures, in order to guarantee the safety of port in production. About the disaster of the cranes caused by windstorm, the traditional view is that when the actual wind speed exceeded the designing wind speed, the quayside container cranes will capsize. But the research results show that the wind-load of 55 meters per second can not make the cranes capsize at all; Most of the disasters caused by windstorm are because of the sudden stop when met obstacle. The crane blown by wind would move in high speed, when the buffers of one side of the legs are stopped, the legs of the other side might be lifted. According to the difference of the obtained energy, two kinds of situations may present:(1) If the energy is large enough, one side of the legs would be lifted very high, and the cg would turns out of the base distance, the container crane would tumble and collapse directly.(2)lf the moving distance is shorter blown by wind, the speed is relatively low, the saved energy is relatively low, the height of one side legs lifted is not able to make the crane capsize and then dropped back, made the legs lost stability because of the impacting power against the ground, caused the crane to collapse.This paper used a quayside container crane of Shang Hai Yang Shan port as an example, to do research on the disaster caused by windstorm mainly on the second situation mentioned above. Otherwise we also analysed the vibration principle of the components, and the reason of tired destruction and welding line fatigue fracture of the components. The analytic work mainly includes the following respects:1 . Set up ANSYS model and DYNA model of the container crane, according to the designed drawing of the metal structure of the quayside container crane.2. Analysed the bucking of thin wall structure under strike in theory and used explicit dynamics (DYNA) to analyse the strike bucking of the quaysidecontainer crane, and carried on exhaustive analysis on the leg about the invalid course of impact.3. On the basis of the failure analysis on the leg, we carried on research on the measures of windproof of the cranes. This paper has considered the most unfavorable wind speed that may meet while carrying on the emulation, combining the characteristic of windproof work at present, we discussed the beam downward and upward separately, got the response of the components under wind load, and has analysed the critical movement distance of the accident happened under different wind speed, offered some reference to the manage workers.4. Use finite element software to carry out model analysis on different kinds of pipes, discussed the degree of natural frequency influenced by the parameters of the pipes, Proceeding the analyse of vibration principle of the structure from the basic characteristic of the wind. This paper also discussed how to seek the critical wind speed of the horizontal wind direction resonance in detail, and has discussed the locking phenomenon of the horizontal wind direction resonance.
