Subsidence is easily seen on some superhighway embankment after completion in loess district. In view of this, this paper grasps the research situations and trends of home and abroad about this problem by consulting a large number of international documents. Considering the specific engineering attributes of loess, this paper studies the attributes of compaction, compression deformation and collapse deformation by a large number of indoor test researches. At the same time, the distributing rule of subsidence on the embankment and the main factors affecting the embankment subsidence are analyzed by finite element calculation and site testing. The process of loess embankment subsidence is analyzed by simulation experiment considering the main factors: time, degree of compaction and height of fill. The regression equation of loess embankment subsidence-time and the relation between the subsidence and height of fill are established. The subsidence of loess embankment is obtained in different compaction criterions. On the basis of those researches, the relevant design methods and preventive measures are provided in the phases of highway design and construction, which will reduce subsidence of loess embankment after completion and improve the quality of superhighway in use and life span.
