City intersection is the joint of road network, which plays an important role in road capacity and service. To improve the traffic capacity and reduce parking and delaying in the intersection are the goals of urban road traffic.Based on traffic capacity and delaying models of signalized intersection recommended in HCM manual as the datum and the detail traffic research to xiao'zhai signalized intersection of xi'an city, the traffic capacity and service level of every lane group in the intersection are analysied. It shows that the road design, signal cycle length and signal timing can't meet the existing traffic demands of the intersection. The analysis results are identical with the real traffic of the intersection. Traffic control upgrade scheme of the intersection is design on the principle of signal timing and traffic channelization design: to set up a straight runway both in the east and west, to set up the public transportation lane and priority signal both in the south and north, to adjust the position of the vehicle turn back in the north, redesign the signal timing scheme, the signal cycle length is 91s, red, green and yellow light time is 50:39:2 in the east and west flow and 45:44:2 in the south and north flow. Finally, mechanisms of every module in the traffic simulation system of the signalized intersection are discussed, the operation conditions and theory models of vehicle in the signalized intersection are analysed in detail, the general idea, framework and flowchat of the simulation software are pointed out. These structure the foundation for the simulation software work in further.
