Indoor Living Space Adaptive Design Study

Usually it is assumed that our interior space of living is immobile. An interior designer also prefers to consider in a static way, such as functional demarcation, traffic organization, space combination and so on. However, people's needs of living space keep changing. Different social background, the variance of family, development of science and technology makes the dweller's needs different. Interior space of living should keep up with this kind of changing, and possess adaptability in it.This paper aims at dynamic changing needs of the dweller, and it is a research about how interior space of living adapting the dynamic changing needs. The paper starts from the adaptability of Chinese traditional interior space. In contrast with modern interior space, the article brings forward a problem of adaptability absence in modern interior space of living. After analyzing the social background, the law of family variance, the paper set forth the necessity, and the meaning of adaptable interior space. Then, the paper analyzes and summarizes the related theories and practice of adaptable interior space in the past 100 years, and provides history with some reference. Lastly, the paper puts forward the content, the basic method of design, the classification and the principle of design for adaptable interior design in living space.
