Garden Language

Semiotics is the science about the nature, the change, the law of the development, and the meanings of symbol, which is developed from linguistics. Chinese cultural linguistics is developed from western linguistics combining with the character of Chinese culture. The comparison between it with Chinese classical gardening can obtain a new viewpoint.This paper surveyed the main theory of Chinese cultural linguistics at first, and explained the visual symbol system of Chinese classical gardening by means of gardening semiotics method: Morphology is used in the research of the morphological characters of the visual factors of gardening; Syntactics is used in the research of the structure and the organization of the visual factors of gardening; Semantics is used in the research of the visual factors of gardening and its meanings; Pragmatics is used in the research of the ways for the gardening visual factors to express the meanings, of ,,,,relationship of gardening symbol and its users. This paper summarized the gardening characters of landscape noumenon, the organization of the touring route, and the pursuit of artistic conception.
