In western loess areas of China, the loess-hidden holes of roadbed endanger the highway security as one kind of intense disaster. The harm in greatest degree is to the roadbed. In order to provides the basis for choice of method and processing scope of loess-hidden holes, we quantitatively determines security thickness of the loess-hidden holes which effect on the roadbed and clarify that which kind of loess-hidden holes under the surface load have to be processed before we determine whether some loess-hidden holes exist and verify the thickness above soil layer and diameter of loess-hidden holes. It is extremely essential to prevents disaster of loess-hidden holes and guarantee road operation security. This article on the basis of Communications research project which is completed studies security thickness of loess-hidden holes in western loess areas by conducting indoor simulated model test. It is a new exploration and try to study the issue comprehensively by simulated model testThis article clarifies destructive mechanisms of loess-hidden holes and determines its destruction standard, establishes prediction models of stability of the roadbed loess-hidden holes, then adopts finite element method and carries on the contrast analysis for confirming its rationality in order to guide the practice of project practice. Finally, this article describes different kinds of formation process of loess-hidden holes in the role of rainwater in detail. It thinks the formation of loess-hidden holes is a kind of process of runoff and sediment production, then introduces and discusses several sediment yield model in the aspect of quantitative analysis. Especially the quantitative research of the formation of loess-hidden holes in the condition of raining should be more in-depth and comprehensive.
