With the development of the power system and electrical users to raise the level of automation, power-supply voltage for electrical equipment is demanding high quality. Local voltage variation and voltage power factor degradation caused by volatile load threatens the life of the automatic equipments, so does the efficiency of the enterprise production. Reactive power control in power system affects the system power factor, voltage level and load equalization, so it is an important issue in electrical power system operation. With the load growth of distribution system, reactive demand rises in order to increase power factor, voltage quality and transmission efficiency. This article introduces the basic concept of the reactive power, reactive load and reactive power loss. Then the thesis compares every kind of reactive compensating devices. The working principles, characteristic and suitable places to use of the devices are also analyzed. The importance of reactive compensation and reactive-load equalization is discussed. In this thesis, the disadvantage of concentrated in a substation or distributed on the low-voltage side of a distribution transformer and pole-mounted reactive compensation is presented for 10kV distribution system. The theory of power factor compensation and voltage control with parallel capacitor is analyzed. The installation point and capacitance are important to the compensation result, so the best point and capacitance are deduced.Accurate electric load forecasting is the foundation to switch compensating capacitors properly. On account of the fact that power system is an intense non-linear, time-varying system which consists of a great many of dynamic no modeling characteristics and tends to become more complicated. In this paper, ANN (Artificial Neural Network) method was applied to forecast the electric load. Based on the past experience and the research of...
