Most current SAR systems in use are still traditional monostatic cases. Well, bistatic SAR is a new radar system operates with individual transmitting and receiving antennas mounted on separate platforms. For its ability of incorporating operational advantages of both bistatic/multistatic radar and SAR systems, it becomes an important development trend in SAR technology field and will play a significant role in military as well as civil applications in the future. So the research on bistatic SAR theory is in demand. This dissertation is focused on the system principles, echoed data simulation and imaging techniques for the stripmap airborne bistatic SAR.sThe azimuth resolution characteristics for different deployments of the antennae'irradiation mode is discussed clearly through analyzing the Doppler history of the echoed signal based on the platforms' motion features and antennae' irradiation rules. Main system parameters' requirements are evaluated and the bistatic SAR radar equation is derived. This dissertation also analyzed the range ambiguity caused by ill geometric configuration arrangements for the transmitter and receiver when the airplane platforms fly on the opposite side of the mapping swath, and achieved the requirements to avoid this ambiguity. This dissertation presented a simulation method for producing ideal echoed data based on the analysis of the point ideal echoed signal model, the 2-D format of the echoed data and the feasibility of creating simulation geography map using BMP images for distributed targets. Simulation results proved that this method is efficient and reliable for the study of imaging algorithms and validation of the system parameter settings. Besides, it's also very convenient to add many kinds of phase errors required by the phase error compensation and SAR image processing research farther. For imaging algorithms, Range-Doppler algorithm is extended to broadside stripmap airborne bistatic SAR successfully. This dissertation employed a step-by-step azimuth processing way which can make full use of the storage trait of the echoed data, to implement range curve compensation directly in the time domain, without...
