The cooling water discharged from coal-fired power station not only influences the efficiency of the cooling water, but also induces the water pollution when it cumulates to a certain degree, which makes it great important to investigate how the heat water distributes after discharged into the sea, and how and to what degree the heat water will influence the environment in this area.Based on thoroughly analysis of the characteristics of the existing mathematical and numerical models, the two-dimension shallow water model and finite volume method are selected to simulate the water dynamics and water temperature distribution. The position of intake and outlet is then exchanged to investigate the optimal position of the intake and outlet. The comparison of the velocity and water level between the measured and calculated data shows a reasonably high agreement, which manifests the validity of the model. The temperature distribution is then simulated using this model, and the position of the intake and outlet is then exchanged. It shows that the position of the intake and outlet has a great impact upon the water temperature in the intake and the whole area: in the scheme #1, in which the intake is located in the south of the power station, the temperature in the intake is higher than it in the scheme #2, in...
