Microstrip antenna arrays with excellent performance has been applied in many different fields, and its planar dielectric substrate structure has a multilayer tendency with the application. In this paper, the radiation characteristics and cross polarization of microstrip antenna array on a grounded multilayer dielectric substrate using the spectral-domain method of moment is studied.First, a generalized spectral-domain Green's function defining the field inside a multilayer dielectric structure is derived. It is derived by solving a "standard" form containing the current element with two substrates on either side of it, and using an iterative algorithm to take care of addition layer. Then an asymptotic form derived along with the asymptotic limit is given.Second , the far-field radiation characteristic of microstrip antenna array on a grounded multilayer dielectric substrate is studied. Reciprocity and with a periodic spectral-domain method of moment is used to calculate the far-field. And then, the validity of the method is proved by using the practice example of a microstrip antenna array on a double-layer dielectric substrate, and the influence of changing the parameter of the antenna (e.g., the subtract dielectric constant, the subtract thickness, and frequency) are analyzed. Finally, based on the analysis of cross polarization caused by the structural problems of microstrip antenna arrays, a rigorous analysis of an infinite array of printed dipoles integrated with a printed strip grating is presented, and the cross-polarization levels of microstrip antenna array on a grounded multilayer dielectric substrate in the absence and presence of the grating are discussed.
