Energy and Environment problem have become an increasing concern by people. The I.C. engine is facing a great challenge to make its best to meet more and more strict require on power performance, economic performance and emission regulation. Under the background, SD2100A direct-injection diesel engine is modified from toroidal swirl-chamber diesel engine with high fuel-consumption and difficult to start. The development of computer technology offers new methods for the research and development of I.C. engine. By the use of computer, the I.C. engine design method can be changed from the tough experience or half-experience design in the past to precise simulation calculation, optimization design and CAD design. The research of I.C. engine working process simulation is most useful for improving the performance of I.C. engine.GT-Power called as Virtual Engine is simulation software for I.C. engine performance simulation, developed by American GTI Corporation, using advanced computer technology and numerical method. GT-Power software is available for simulating all type of engines, because of owning advanced analytic function, accurate physical model, and simple modeling process. This paper creates a GT-Power simulation model of SD2100A direct-injection diesel engine. Through comparing the simulation result with test data, it is proved that the simulation model is correct.In terms of medium and small-sized direct-injection diesel engine, for improving combustion process, enhancing efficiency, reducing fuel-consumption and emission, our researches mostly focus on improvement of fuel-injection system, organization of effective airflow motions in cylinder, design of reasonable chamber structure shape, and the best match-relationship among them. Considering so many parameters of the three systems mentioned above, this paper select four key parameters including compression ratio, advance angle of fuel injection, cam timing angle of intake valve and exhaust valve. By use of the GT-Power simulation model, we carry out the simulation calculation for the key parameters with optimized method. After the parameters are determined, we carry out the whole performance simulation and get simulation result. Compared to the result before optimization, the result after optimization show that the power performance and economic performance are both improved. So the method of simulating and optimizing the SD2100A direct-injection diesel engine using the model of GT-Power is feasible. After the study of this paper, we can achieve the useful method to guide the update design and performance optimization for diesel engine.
