With the raising level of the ship’s electrification and automation and increasingnumber of electrical equipments, the ship electric system is more and more important, sois the system security. As an integral part of ship, the ship electric power system design isan important part of the ship design, that is directly related to the safety of navigation forship and operators, and of great significance to ensure the safety and reliability of powersupply in the harsh environment.According to the basic theory and principle of the design of ship electric powersystem, combined with the82000DWT bulk carrier design task book and technicalagreements,a relevant work about electrical design and calculation has been done on it.The main content includes:The load calculation is completed by using the demand factor method, and then themain electric sources are selected and verified such as the generators, transformers.The main busbar, power distribution method as well as the range of the grid aredetermined at first. Taking this as the basis, the design of primary system and secondarysystem is completed. And then the board devices’ electrical design is finished such as themain switchboard, emergency switchboard, etc.In the premise of the short-circuit calculations for typical faults and the selection ofcircuit breakers(ACB, MCCB, MCB) are completed, this paper has carried on the relayprotection setting and coordination for major equipments such as generators, transformersand loads.On the basis of theoretical study and modeling of diesel engine speed control systemand generator excitation system, a completely model for the ship electric power system isbuilt by using Matlab/Simulink tools. And according to the bulk carrier’s electricalparameters, the analysis of simulation results is finished through the simulation undertypical operating and fault conditions.
