Modern vehicle design is driven by the need for increased comfort, safety and security. As a result automobiles are becoming intelligent and increasingly reliant on electronics. This trend sets higher requirements on the power supply for the electronic systems. The voltage regulator is known as the heart module of the power supply. A high-quality regulator is an important precondition to guarantee a high reliability of the electronic systemsA new circuit of the regulator is designed in this paper. A monolithic integration scheme is presented to explore the high regulated precision, small size, light weight and the high electrical and mechanical advantages.The operation of the voltage regulator is described in detail. The function blocks, including sampling circuit, voltage reference, differential amplifier, protection circuit and the high power regulation transistor, are designed. All of the electrical and physical parameters and the geometries of the circuit are discussed in depth. The design is verified by SPICE simulation results. Finally the topological layout of the regulator is introduced for reference.
