As a kind of new drive device, because of its special characters, nowadays the Linear Induction Motor is applied in industry comparatively widely. Moreover, this kind of motor has comprehensive applied prospect in rail transit range. Not only can act as traction motor in Maglev, it can also be used to propel vehicle in Urban rail transportation wheel-rail subway system. In both span the successful applied examples have been reported in the world. This thesis mostly focus on the control and simulation of LIM (Linear Induction Motor) which be used in transportation realm. The foundation theory and property of the Linear Induction motors is introduced firstly. Subsequently the exhaustive analysis of this kind of motor is performed using the electromagnetic field theory. Based on these analysis results, the property simulation of the motor is finished by computer and the compare is completed between the simulation result with the test data. It shows that the foregoing analysis and simulation are applicable.Based on the property analysis of this kind of motor, the analysis and compare among several control strategies which may be used on the control of Linear Induction Motor are performed. Finally the Direct Thrust Control is selected as the control strategy. Combined with the property of the LIM, the further analysis and research of the DTC control is proceed subsequently in this thesis. Finally the DTC control system is constructed and its simulation is finished using the Matlab/Simulink. The simulation result shows that the DTC control system is available on the control of LIM and this control system is especially robust.
