Comfort is a main performance index of modern railway passenger vehicle, and the analysis and tests on comfort are necessary for all newly developed railway passenger vehicles. The traditional pattern for comfort analysis is carrying out real vehicle experiment, surveying experiment data, and carrying out comfort computation according to Comfort Evaluation Standards. This pattern is costly and time consuming, and can not carry out comfort estimation and prediction during design stage. As a result, it is very difficult to make a rational vehicle design sheme. The development of virtual prototype and virtual reality technique provide a new approach for vehicle comfort evaluation in the early phase, which can "display" and "experience" the comfort experiment course through the virtual experiment technology of railway vehicle comfort and virtual experiment environment. The research work has double significance in both theory and engineering.In the base of studying on the desktop virtual experiment system of railway vehicle comfort, the following several aspects research works are carried out revolving the virtual experiment technology of railway vehicle comfort: analysing and researching railway vehicle comfort evaluation criteria; establishing dynamics analysis model of comfort; constructing virtual experiment scene of railway vehicle comfort; visualization comfort experiment data of railway vehicle and so on.In the aspect of establishing railway vehicle dynamics model of comfort, the virtual prototype model is established in the ADAMS/Rail environment. Considering several kinds of influence factor, the wheel model and the track irregularity model are defined correspondingly. Under the random input drive, the time domain simulation solution of railway vchicle is realized. On the base, comfort of railway vehicle is analyzed and calculated in several working condition, and estimated according to the comfort standard.In the aspect of constructing virtual experiment scene of railway vehicle comfort, the virtual experiment scene database of the railway track is establishing in Creator software, including track,bridge,tunnel,platform,rivers,lawn,trees,sierra and so on. The virtual experiment model database of railway vehicle containing texture and color is established by using Pro/Engineer and Creator. Transfering of virtual experiment scene and virtual railway vehicle is achieved by the Vega program tools. The virtual railway vehicle can simulate the revolution of wheels, the vibration of axle box and bolster spring, and the vibration of frame and bolster When it runs in the virtual experiment scene.In the aspect of visualization of railway vehicle comfort experiment data, the virtual experiment instruments of railway vehicle comfort is established by using Measurement Studio development tool. The virtual instruments can achieve dynamic display of acceleration through reading dispersed acceleration test data, and they can also precisely display the vehicle running speed and comfort state. Vega provides double channel and three-dimension support function, and the paper has separately drew up the vehicle state picture of virtual experiment to the left and right channel. It can let left eye to see left channel picture and right eye to see the right channel picture through the switch of special display card and liquid crystal class. This can achieve stereo display of comfort virtual experiment, and the triers can achieve higher immersed feeling.
