In view of the present situation of our country's distribution network, as well as theinfluence of the electric network voltage and the waste of active power which are relatedto reactive power, research how to utilize the genetic algorithm(GA) in reactive poweroptimization, which can reduce the network active loss effectively, enhance the voltageeligible rate, reduce the network operating cost, and improve the power supply quality.And research the distribution network reactive power control principle, the capacitorscompensation principle, the basis of the capacitors in and out, the method of the capacitorsin and out and so on. Establish a reactive power optimization mathematical model whichis for the aim of the smallest expense in a year. And in view of the defects of traditionalGA applied to reactive power optimization, base on the characteristic of powerdistribution network, to improve the genetic operator and the termination criterion oftraditional GA. And then an improved GA for reactive power optimization of distributionnetwork is put forward to enhance the calculation efficiency and the ability of globaloptimization. Finally, design the reactive power optimization system in the foundation ofthe preliminary fundamental research including its structure chart,the flow chart,thealgorithm realization,the main function realization and so on.
