To locate the fault position accurately has huge social and economic benefit. It has been proved that traveling wave range finder can be realized greatly on transmission lines without FACTS, and the measure precision is also satisfied in theory and practice field. Along with the gradual improvement of FACTS technology, the application of which on ultrahigh voltage, large capacity and long-distance range transmission line is more and more widespread. At present, there is few research on this issue that whether the fault location method of traveling wave can be realized greatly on transmission lines with FACTS or not. The research of TCSC of FACTS is performed in this article. With the development of the electronic technology and the digital signal processing technology like DSP,ARM and so on, it has been possible to design and develop a kind of equipment using traveling wave to measure the range with stable ,reliable and high accuracy . One way to design the equipment is introduced and the starting algorithm is researched in this article.The main research content and achievement of this article are as follows:1. The transmission characteristic of traveling wave on single-phase and three-phase transmission line is briefly introduced in this paper, and mainly focused on the Clarke transformation of untransposed lines. Clarke transformation matrix of untransposed lines is illustrated by the example of actual 500kV overhead transmission line.2. The wavelet irregularity examination theory is briefly introduced, andstructure of cubic B-spline wavelet and filter algorithm is mainly researched. Effect ofdb-4, haar, sym-4 and three B transect to detect increment of fault traveling wave iscompared and analyzed through actual examples. It turns out that cubic B-splinewavelet has superior localization effect to others of the increment fault traveling wave.3. Mathematical model of TCSC is traversed and the control strategy of theTCSC is briefly introduced and electromagnetism transient simulation model ofTCSC transmission line under current synchronous mode is proposed. Based onthis model, operating characteristic of TCSC is thoroughly studied, and the dynamic characteristic of TCSC when the reactor adjusts different parameters ? and Q and the steady-state characteristic under different operating mode are both discussed.4. Through the theoretical analysis and the simulation experiment, the conclusion that the transition process when TCSC threw & cut and adjustment may make the influence on the traveling wave range finder, but make no influence when TCSC is stable state movement and ? is not too small, is obtained.5. A kind of design method of the traveling wave range finder based on embedded operation system is introduced, the principle of work of the core component such as ARM,GPS and high speed gathering card and so on is briefly demonstrated, and the function and the principle of work which backstage software realizes is described.
