With spot survey, the performance of type of AC-13C used in road surface course was systematically studied, considered the change of the aggregate gradation, air voids, aging and asphalt content. Based on the analysis, designing propositions improved for a hot humid area were gave out in the paper. It is referenced and useful to the design of hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixture and to the construction of asphalt pavement. The experiments demonstrate that: The change of finer aggregate amount has an obvious influence on the character of HMA mixture; Air voids is one key factor to HMA performance, and the percentage of voids being controlled efficiently would improve HMA performance; After the short time oven aging, the performance of HMA mixture degrade obviously, and the factor of asphalt content greatly influence HMA characters of road-use .The coarse-density AC-13C typical asphalt concrete which is improved according to the paper's conclusion is used in Nanning to Youyiguan expressway and Liuzhou ring expressway, and the experences proved that the bound of gradation suggested in this paper is validate and the quality controlling technique propsed in this paper is useful.
