Relay setting lays a solid base for the long-term run of modern power system of large scale, free of fault. And to study on it is of huge economic and social benefits. With the quick development of the power system, it becomes a heavy burden to make a whole set of relay setting. In this case, a setting system of distributed-parallel architecture is of a profound practical significance.In this paper, we firstly introduce the theory of distributed-parallel architecture based on .NET platform. And we expatiate on the critical issues concerning the distributed-parallel computing system, such as load balancing, fault-tolerant, system scalability,security of system and so on.Secondly the paper summarizes the characteristics of relay setting of EHV power system. As to the special requirements of the relay of EHV power system, it gives the configuration principles of the prime protection and the backup protection, and also the principle of relay setting computing. As the difference between computer-aided and manual setting computing, this paper summarizes the theory of computer-aided relay's setting computing, such as graph theory, fault calculating and so on.Last but not least, we present the design of the relay setting system (DPEset1.0), which is of three-layer architecture, .i.e, presentaytion layer, service layer, and data layer. Lastly, it gives an example, that is how to attain the MBPS in DPEset1.0, which is of D-P architecture.
