Electronic endoscope has very important applying and researching value in the modern medical diagnosis and industrial non-destructive testing areas. Video buffer controller is one of the core subsystems of the video system center of electronic endoscope. To realize high-speed real-time processing for high-definition and low-distortion endoscopic image, this thesis introduces the FPGA design of video buffer controller for high definition electronic endoscope.Based on the research of electronic endoscope technology and storage techniques of digital video data, requirement of video buffer controller is proposed. Then the thesis establishes the overall design framework of the video buffer controller, and describes the functions and components of the controller. The video buffer controller is designed based on Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA. Its main function is to control data writing and reading procedure of video buffer, also to manage the video data flow.The final debugging and performance analysis show that the video buffer controller realized in this thesis can support buffer of high definition 1080i (1920×1080@30fps) video data in 15 seconds, and the operating frequency of the controller has achieved 200MHz. Therefore, the basic goal is accomplished.
