Modulation Domain and Pulse Analyzer (MDPA) is a powerful instrument for modulation domain analysis, also it is a useful tool for time interval measurement. The employment of MDPA makes signals that hard to be expressed in time & frequency domain can be expressed easily. MDPA can be used to analyze signal features such as frequency, time interval, phase which changes with time, and measure the transient characteristics of signals especially. This instrument is applied in various applications such as digital communication systems, radar, electronic warfare (EW) systems and mechanical electronic systems.The thesis has a description of the principles of MDPA and its typical applications. An analysis of the MDPA architecture and its key technique has been taken out. Based on those work, main focus was put on the design and realization of the arming and signal conditioning module, that are two important modules of the instrument.The thesis decides the design scheme of the arming module, then accomplishes the design and validation work of its functional blocks including automatic arming block, holdoff arming block, sampling arming block and holdoff/sampling arming block. The time interval and interpolation gate making circuit also has been designed and validated. The drawing and debugging work of the PCB has been finished.The arming module is working well in the MDPA now.The thesis fulfils the design tasks of the signal conditioning board, which includes a main input channel(contains A, B channel) of DC~200MHz, a extenal input channel of DC~100MHz and a RF input channel of 100MHz~2.5GHz. The simulation and validation work of some main functional blocks has been done. The drawing and debugging work of the signal conditioning PCB board has been finished. Test results prove that the design target of the signal conditioning module has been achieved.6 modules—The arming module, signal conditioning module in this thesis and the other 4 modules including the analog interpolation module, ZDT module, high-speed digital processing module, time base module—make a full functional MDPA, which could fill up the gaps in the modulation domain analysis field in our country.
