Pulse detonation engine (PDE) is a new concept of propulsor, which utilizes intermittent or pulsed detonation wave produced by high temperature and pressure gas to generate thrust. PDE has many desirable advantages, including high thermodynamic cycle efficiency, low fuel consumption, high thrust-weight ratio, large specific impulse, simple configuration, and will become one of the propulsive devices of aviation and spaceflight aircraft in this century.The inlet design and its adaption with detonation chamber is one of the pivotal technologies of PDE.Two aspects of research have been done in the thesis.Firstly structure of PDE inlet with rotary valve has been designed; 2D axis-symmetrical steady fluid field in inlet has been calculated. The result show that the inlet design is reasonable and the inlet can work at 5atm-6.3atm of anti-export base pressure.Secondly based on analysis of singlebarrel and multibarrel PDE working cycle, two simplified mathematical models of rotary valve have been established. The unsteady numerical fluid field simulation shows the below conclusion.(1) After rotary valve closed, the time before terminal shock ejected out of entrance of inlet is constant, is independent of initial location of the terminal shock..(2) Restarting of inlet after rotary valve reopen requires the closed time less than 0.07ms.(3) Working frequency of PDE has obvious effect on major shock wave amplitude, export Mach number, fluid field distortion factor, and total pressure resume ratio. The outlet backpressure has less effect on these parameters. The outlet backpressure and working frequency has less effect on inlet flowing mass factor.(4) Increasing of anti-export base pressure requires increasing of minimum working frequency.The researches of this thesis have referrence value for rotary valve inlet design of PDE.
