The main transformer is the most important power transformation supply for electric locomotive, and any fault of it can result in halt and line broken-up. Therefore any electric locomotive company must guarantee its product with reliable main transformer, and the main transformer test is crucial in the manufacture of electric locomotive. All the traditional testing devices are constituted by separate special apparatus, which are operated by hand, and adopt manual figure reading and account. This new method overcomes the disadvantages of low efficiency and precision, and lack of security of the old one.The integrated test system for the main transformer of electric locomotive replaces the traditional test equipments effectively, can carry out automated test and fault diagnosis, and performances much better in the function, precision and security than the traditional method. It greatly raises the test level of main transformer for electric locomotive, guarantees the running security, decreases the manual work, and improves the efficiency.This paper studies the basic theory and technique of all tests of main transformer for electric locomotive in term of the country specification, designs the testing system, including system hardware, system parameters, function power, data acquisition, hardware and software of PLC system, automated diagnosing of power system, and so on. The 12 test items of the main transformer for electric locomotive, such as DC resistance measurement, are all successfully carried out automatically by industrial computer.
