As a supporter of aviation, airports are increasing quickly due to the great achievement of China's national economy. Especially with the implementation of China's Western Development Strategy, the construction and extension of airports is becoming in a high speed stage. The present airport construction in the Western is characterized by complicated terrain, geomorphic and geological condition, deep cut and fill, large amounts of earthwork, high level, short time and small planned investment. In construction of airport filled foundation is primary task, its quality effect the whole project's construction quality and economic benefit, especially in the complex condition faced by airport construction in mountain of China. For ensuring the requirements of foundation's stability and deformation, we must care the quality inspection for filled foundation.Conventional method for quality inspection of filled foundation is reliable, but these methods have some limitation, such as complex equipment, long run, low efficiency, using points instead of the whole, wasting work and time. Rayleigh wave method is a new technology of quality inspection, the character of frequency-depth and correlation of R wave speed with physical nature of geotechnical engineering can be used to settle many engineering geology problem. According to result of theoretical research and practicable application, this paper approve that Rayleigh wave method has merits comparing with conventional method, such as high efficiency, high degree of accuracy, widespread availability, small influence by area, lightweight of equipment and so on. can test evaluation of extended foundation treatment with economy and effective feature. Rayleigh wave method can meet requirement of the quality inspection for filled foundation and airport construction such as high start point, high rank, and short time of construction and so on.
