Dump truck has a propensity to rollover when dumping because of the bad working conditions. Variable soil conditions, high winds, significant ground slope, and shifting loads contribute to a high risk of rollover for dump trucks. In this study, a dynamic simulation model of a dump truck with T lifting mechanism was established to study the dumping stability of the dump truck. Through the dynamic simulation of the dump truck model in several typical situations, the dynamic rollover threshold values were determined. This study is also a good attempt and research of using virtual prototyping technology in vehicle design. This thesis analyzed the theory of rollover and dumping soil when the dump truck unloading. According to the structure and operating characteristics of dump truck, the main factors affecting roll over when the dump truck unloading were analyzed. Sub-models of the lifting mechanism, front and rear suspension, road and tire were designed and assembled to be a whole dump truck model for dumping stability using virtual prototyping technology. According the working conditions and normal or abnormal unloading, 5 kinds of calculation conditions were established and simulated. Considering the different weight, horizontal slope angle, longitudinal slope angle, centroid offset of the goods, wheelbase and normal or abnormal unloading, and then the dynamic rollover threshold was determined. A dumping rollover field test of the dump truck was also done and the rollover threshold was determined. The threshold value determined in simulation was verified by the results of the test and the whole virtual prototype of the dump truck was proven to be reasonable.
