With economy rapid growth, the occupancy of vehicle is also growing rapidly.It is more convenient for people going to work and travelling.In the meantime, the traffic becomes more and more complex, it is easy to maze and take people into jam.Currently, the development of navigation system based on PC is more mature, but it is not convenient for people to take on hand. The technology development makes it feasible to develop portable embedded integrated device with the function of locating and navigating the specific location.According to the requirement of outing, this integrated device should have the capacity of location, direction, routing continuously. It also should have the capacity of route-planning and can help the driver arrive at the destination accurately in the end.A novel vehicle location and navigation system prototype is implemented in this thesis after analysing current vehicle location and navigation systems. We piece Atmel AT91SAM9260, SiRF GSC3f GPS module and SSD1289 TFT LCD together as the hardware platform. Meanwhile, we choose Nano-X as digital map and human-machine interface graphic rendering library. According to the application requirement, the system contains the following function module: digital map display, geography information service, real-time navigation and miscellaneous function module. This system prototype use open source project achievement to reduce cost because of no license fee.The structure of this paper is organized as following: the development of vehicle location and navigation industry and the conditions of related topics are introduced firstly, and then the process of cross compiling tool-chain is expounded.Secondly, the achievement of importing implement scheme of LCD class device driver and Frame Buffer to eCos architecture is got.Thirdly, we port frame buffer for Nano-X graphic library.And then, the core class design, digital map rendering, digital map control component design are expounded.In the end,the research results and the drawbacks are summarized.
