This article compares and analyzes the applications of the Taguchi methods and the GUM(Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement)theory on calibration and measurement uncertainty study. There are three focus areas: First, to apply Taguchi methods and GUM in the study of measurement uncertainty, and to compare and analyze both methods in the assessment of similarities and differences and advantages and disadvantages. At the same time, the calibration theory in Taguchi methods helps to improve the GUM flaw of calibrating on fixed point only to reach any point calibration. Second, Taguchi method is applied to the measurement error analysis and measurement standards periodic calibration. Analysis is done on the affecting factors to the measurement accuracy of the measuring equipment. A quantitative analysis method is provided to improve the measurement accuracy of the measuring equipment. At the same time, it raised a new periodic calibration method, based on Taguchi methods, and addressed the actual problem during periodic calibration in grass-roots measurement and calibration department. Third, it involves a large amount of actual practice and research. Theory is developed to serve the practice and require the proof of practice. This article takes the calibration and measurement uncertainty study of DC Digital Voltage Meter as the research object. And it demonstrates the above-mentioned theories through actual practice. The practice and research is divided into three groups: calibration study of DC Digital Voltage Meter; the comparison and study of measurement uncertainty of DC DVM, and the application of Taguchi methods on measurement error analysis and periodic calibration. The Taguchi methods' calibration theory is used to derive the calibration formula for each DC DVM stalls. By using higher class measuring standard and calibration formula based on Taguchi methods, the calibration can be done on any point of measurement equipment. This is a great complement to GUM theory and has great practical significance. In the comparative study of measurement uncertainty, both Taguchi methods and GUM theories are used for the measurement uncertainty assessment to full-scale value of DC DVM each stalls. Both of the results of the assessment are compared. Advantages and disadvantages are given for application of both Taguchi methods and GUM on measurement uncertainty assessment. In the measurement error analysis of DC DVM, Taguchi methods and Orthogonal list are used to arrange the error factor; data processing methods under Orthogonal test is used to analyze the measurement error. It brings the solution to the error analysis and measurement uncertainty for multi-parameter and interactive effect applications and helps to get quantitative access to the impact of influence factor to DC DVM measurement error. It provides the basis to improve DC DVM measuring accuracy and assessment accuracy to measurement uncertainty. This article also studies the routine calibration of Taguchi methods' application in periodic calibration. It is proved to be a new developed method.
