Based on The annual output of the tailings is about 300 million tons in our country, which waste rock stocking has reach 12.7 billion tons in the past years, and metal mining accounted for more than 50 million tons. Because of the improper disposal or affected by the terrain, the weather and human factors, collapse, landslide, mudslide and other accidents will occur easily, which will bring great losses to people's life property and the environment. In order to ensure sustainable development of the mine producing, it is very necessary to study on the stability of the tailing dam and the safety management of the tailing storeroom, which will provide theoretical guidance and practical help for the mine enterprises that have such problems.This paper is aiming at the ubiquitous safety problem in our country tailing storeroom at present, taking a certain tailing storeroom in Yunnan province as engineering background to systematically study on the stability of the tailing dam, the safety management of the tailing storeroom and other problems using a theory of safety system engineering and methods of fuzzy mathematics analysis, principal component analysis,limit balance etc. The main work and achievements are as follows:(1) After reading massive references, the paper has introduced the compositions of the tailing in the tailing system and some related concepts about the tailing dam, summarized the mode of the tailing stacking and damming, the theories and the methods of the stability analysis in China at present.(2) Qualitative analysis of dam stability. Comparing with some qualitative analysis methods, arc limit equilibrium method is introduced to check dam stability and calculate aftermath, assessing dam stability in ongoing phase, upgoing phase and anaphase and giving reasonable advice.(3) Comprehensive analysis on safety management of tailing. Starting from angle which safety assessment and developed safety assessment index system ,Considering on continuity and normality of Fuzzy distributing, Cauchy distribution function, as subjected function, is applied to assess and analyze management status of tailings, meanwhile, relevant measures are brought forward by comparing with tailing management in different years. Then tailing management performance is ranked by PCA in different years, and pointing out those reasons.Finally, technical problems related to safe and steady function of tailing dams are summed up, then measures and advices ,so that it can help tailing dams of stabilities, are also put forward from those aspects of management and technology.
