Ultra-high-rise Buildings Of Human Scale

Super high-rise buildings are an important form of building in contemporary cities and gaining increasing attention. This type of buildings have been rapidly developed in construction of medium and large cities, while they ease the conflict between the lack of urban land and the growing urban population, and add to the variety of urban spacial pattern. However, many of today's super high-rise buildings are designed with overwhelming, dimensional magnificence, without sufficient attention to human, the subject of the buildings. Therefore, in such environment of super high-rise buildings, people hardly have the approachable and pleasant dimensional feelings.In design of super high-rise buildings, importance should be attached to the interaction between people and the environment, with each part designed in such a way that people's needs are taken into consideration, and thus placing the humanized dimension as the main body of the design of super high-rise buildings. The concept of humanized dimension of super high-rise buildings is proposed. With humanized dimension as the reference standard, analysis and study are made with regard to developing and incorporating the humanized dimension of interior and exterior space of super high-rise buildings. The principles of and suggestions about developing humanized dimension of super high-rise buildings are derived.The significance of developing the humanized dimension of super high-rise buildings is in the following aspects:First of all, through design of spacial proportion, the main body of a building is made free of negative mental influences on people; secondly, when the variation of spacial texture and colors are utilized, a comfortable and attractive spacial environment is built. Moreover, courtyard, roof garden and other exterior scenes are well designed, and adequate, comfortable, and nice outdoor facilities are provided to a reasonable degree as well as matching the overall spacial effect. When and only when each detail is carefully designed to take care of people's needs, it is possible to create a pleasant spacial environment in the city which is like a jungle of reinforced concrete buildings.The paper comprises six chapters. Chapter one is the introduction, mainly about the purpose, significance and method of studying humanized dimension of super high-rise buildings. Chapter two examines the concept and developmental status of super high-rise buildings, and points out the characteristics and existing problems of China's super high-rise buildings. Chapter three explores the theory of humanized dimension of super high-rise buildings, elucidates the implication of humanized dimension, and analyzes the factors which influence super high-rise buildings, including cities and people's psychology as the discussed factors. Based on the interior and exterior space of super high-rise buildings, Chapter four summarizes the principles of developing humanized dimension of super high-rise buildings, and in the mean time brings up various issues related to developing humanized dimension of super high-rise buildings. chapter five examines various ways of developing humanized dimension. Chapter six studies some successful cases from home and abroad, for further recognition of the importance of developing humanized dimension of super high-rise buildings.
