The heat-exchanger is very important process industrial equipment. It has many disadvantages for the traditional development methods, such as long development period, burdensome design task and low design efficiency and so on. Using CAD technology in the design of heat-exchanger, it can save energy and lower consuming. It also can decrease the equipment investment and improve the quality of design and the efficiency. By shortening the exploitation periods of new products, it makes engineers get rid of burdensome repetition work and promotes the development of the country.Heat-exchanger CAD system (HECAD) realizes the integration of technological design, mechanical design and components design for heat-exchange equipment with longitudinal flow of shell-side fluid. The system has succeeded in two-dimension drawing of components and played an important role in the process of design for heat-exchange equipment with longitudinal flow of shell-side fluid since it was developed.HECAD system was empoldered based on AutoCAD R14 in the environment of Windows 98. For the long exploitation, the technology used by the system should be improved with the development of computer technology. The company of Autodesk has popularized the software of AutoCAD2007, and some consumers even use AutoCAD2008 at present. Unfortunately the old system can't run without AutoCAD R14, which restricts the spread and use of HECAD system. The author realizes the upgrade of HECAD system and optimizes the program, using Microsoft Visual Stdio.Net 2005 and Object ARX2007.Firstly the author introduces the development situation, research evolving and development trend of CAD technology home and abroad in detail. The author also introduces the the secondary development situation for the CAD system and the characteristics of the HECAD system.The author recommends the secondary development elements for AutoCAD2007, which mainly include the characteristic of the ObjectARX application and menu customization for AutoCAD2007. In order to make the upgrade for HECAD system come true, the author ravel out much difficulty which is confronted when we upgrade the program. According as the technology way, the author makes the upgrade of the technology design, the database of nature parameter and the database of engineering material come true. The author tests the software and it runs normally. So the author accomplishes his object. Finally, taking shell for example, the author accomplishes its mechanism design and component design, and then the system automatically plotscutaway.
