With the development of the computer technology, instrument industries are undergoing a great change. The computer has powerful abilities of processing and display, which makes it improve the performance of the instruments in any aspects of data acquisition, data analysis and data representation. New instruments characterized by virtual instruments change the traditional instruments ideas. New instruments make full use of computers'powerful software and hardware resources, closely combine the computer technology and measurement technology, and is a new measurement instruments jointed the electronic measurement, signal processing, computer and network technology together. It has been widely applied because it cost low and is convenient to use.This research topic adopts virtual instruments technology, uses graphical progra-mming software-LabVIEW and applies data acquisition cardPCI-488 produced by NI company as hardware platform and collects data for the Keithley 2400 digital SourceMeter testing system based on LabVIEW and stores analytical data. The system adopts instruments hardware to collect external signal, realizes the function of instrument display and real-time measurement.First, this paper introduces the study background and significance of the virtual instruments and some research progress at home and abroad. Then this paper gives a comprehensive summary of the general virtual instruments, discusses conception, composition, characteristic and development of the virtual instruments, and establishes the basic framework for the virtual instruments. Which expounds the design scheme of the real-time test system, and provides detail design of various function module and integrates various functions module of digital SourceMeter. On this basis, the paper carries on the real-time test and analyze electroluminescence spectrum of LED. Finally, the system test of the SourceMeter based on virtual instruments is performed and analyzes its system performance. It shows that the Keithley SourceMeter based on LabVIEW and designed in the paper can satisfy engineering application test and has certain application value.
