With the energy crisis getting worse and environmental pollution problem serious around the world, it is one of the major issues for people to explore new technologies to use the efficient and clean energy.Proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) has many advantages, such as high energy density and environmental protection which is especially used for the mobile power sources. In order to improve the design and performance of PEMFC system, it is necessary to carry out a deep investigation on the running procedure and contributing factors of a fuel cell. As the complexity of the PEMFC system itself, a lot of key variables are needed to be considerded. However,it is a very difficult process to set up the theoretical model of the PEMFC system based on mechanism method. At the same time, in order to improve the power system's stability and reliability in the real process,it is necessary to adopt some feasible control methods. In this paper, an electrochemical model of the PEMFC system is proposed, as well as a dynamic mode. The control and simulation of PEMFC stack output voltage have been realized by using an adaptive fuzzy PID controller. The main contributions and achievements of this paper are given as follows:1) It is briefly explained that the working principle of PEMFC, the function of the main components and the management parts. The composition of the PEMFC monitoring system is introduced in detail, and then its key technoloes are studied.2) In this paper, Matlab/Simulink simulation tool is used to create a PEMFC system steady state model based on the electrochemical theory of fuel cell.By simulation, the affection of the temperature and reactive gas pressure on the stack performance is analyzed.3) The dynamic performance of the stack in the power generation process is studied.A simulation model of the PEMFC system is set up in this paper. The influence of operating parameters on dynamic output performance and nonlinear resistance is mainly discussed. At the same time, the feasibility of the model is verfied by comparing the experimental data and simulation results.4) A self-adaptive fuzzy PID controller is designed, in which the parameters are adjusted by using the fuzzy logic. And the simulation of the third-order transfer system shows that the controller has good performance.5) Based on the parameter model, the self-adaptive fuzzy PID controller and PID controller are respectively used to change the flow of stack-entrance hydrogen. In this way, the control and simulation of the stack output voltage is realized. The simulation results show that the model designed in this paper can response the dynamic performance of the PEMFC system well and the self-adaptive fuzzy PID controller can control the output voltage more effectively than PID controller.
