Along with the constant development of the society, scheme optimization, structure design, project construction and monitoring evaluation of retaining and protecting for deep foundation pit have become systematic technical problems in the engineering construction within the recent years. The retaining and protecting structure of deep foundation pit not only needs to ensure the safety of normal operation within foundation pit, but also needs to prevent moving-load both within and outside foundation pit to ensure normal operation of any nearby buildings, roads and pipelines. As a very practical Geotechnical Engineering subject, it is yet to obtain a measurable result of foundation pit engineering at present, therefore only a method integrating theory-driven, actual measurement and experience check can be adopted to determine relatively appropriate technical decisions and emergency measures for the construction of foundation pit.Under the premise of widely reading articles as to the latest theories of retaining and protecting foundation pit, this Paper has references of the available experience of foundation pit in Jinan and has combined the project of Shandong Tianye International Building to take the engineering of retaining and protecting of the foundation pit of such project as the study object. On the basis of researching and analyzing the relevant geological exploration, indoor test data and influencing factors of the surroundings, Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation Method has been utilized to carry out selections of retaining and protecting schemes for deep foundation pit and to implement systematic analysis, calculation and study of the structure design, details optimization and relevant monitoring evaluation. Feasible retaining and protecting schemes that are suitable for this area have been explored and regional experience have been summarized to provide experience support for subsequent studies.The project of Tianye International Building is located within the central area of Jinan with the Spring Square and the Moat to the south and the Spring Road to the north. Due to the busy location and narrow site, it is not permitted to either explode or have slope excavation. The consideration for the selection of the retaining and protecting schemes of the project foundation pit needs to include the connection with the old existing Yongan Building, the coordination with the simultaneous construction of the Hengolong Plaza on the southeast and the normal traffic of the Spring Road on the north. The project basically covers various influencing factors in safety, economy and environmental protection under the current special external conditions for Spring Protection in Jinan, plus uncontrollable factors with weather which made this project quite typical.This research Paper primarily contains the following sections: 1. Existing types of foundation pit and application;2. Optimizing theories and methods of foundation pit;3. The utilization of Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation Method for optimizing the retaining and protecting schemes for foundation pit;4. Structure designs and details optimization of foundation pit;5. Monitoring and evaluation summary. This Paper plans to solve the following problems:1. In connection with the complex external constructional conditions of Tianye International Building, identifying alternative feasible designs that are suitable, safe and economic.2. Adopting Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation Method to identify the optimal scheme.3. Combining the structure design of the construction to carry out details optimization for the identified scheme and also re-computing the floating resistance, anti-slide, resistance to capsizing and settlement of the Yong'an Building on the west to ensure the reliability and stability of all the design parameters.4. Gathering statistics of monitoring and construction data and combining the experience and lessons learned from the recently completed constructions of foundation pit in similar regions to identify the experience and conclusion of this region's retaining and protecting engineering for reaching the final theoretical summary.The objective of this Paper is to further substantiate and improve the selection of retaining and protecting schemes for foundation pit from safe and economic perspectives and consequently improve the regional theoretical systems of retaining and protecting for foundation pit in Jinan Region. It has provided relatively complete information and risk evadable experience for any future similar types of project to facilitate development in studies and applications of retaining and protecting for deep foundation pit in this region.
