As rapid development of national economy and transport industry, more and more bridges have been built; at the same time, the security issues of passing ships under the bridge become more important. First, the research and results of vessel-bridge collision is systematically summarized. Second, the probability,causes and consequences of vessel-bridge collision accident have been well understood by in-depth statistics and analysis on vessel-bridge collision accident,active and passive anti-collision measures, combined with the actual situation of Yuan River bridge of Wuqiangxi. And then a framework and reference about safety evaluation methods of bridge pier is put forwarded. Last, foundation reinforcement technology of bridge pier and adhesion issue of new and old concrete are studied.Therefore, the significance of this research is to enhance the safety of the bridge and the ship sailed under the bridge by deeply understanding of the methods of systematic risk analysis and evaluation. In this paper, the research works are carried out as follows:(1)Introduce the ship-bridge collision theory and study calculation method of ship collision. Compare the similarities and differences of simplified formula of main bridge code. Study focused on collision time T of the General Code for Design of Highway Bridges and Culverts.(2)Summarize the ship collision risk acceptance criteria for bridge and target reliability of engineering structures. Introduce the methods of formulation of risk acceptance criteria. Study criteria of personal risk, social risk, environmental risk and economic risk and discuss acceptable level of the above risk. Propose risk acceptance criteria of vessel-bridge collision of china. And recommend appropriate measures to reduce the collision risk of ship collision.(3)Combined the situation of China, a method about security check calculations of Pier Collision which based on General Code for Design of Highway Bridges and Culverts and safety evaluation of vessel-bridge collision which based on AASHTO Guide is discussed. As Yuan River of Wuqiangxi an example, reinforcement techniques are studied and the reinforcement method is also put forwarded.(4) After studying the relevant reinforcement technology, a pier reinforcement of Yuan River Bridge in Wuqiangxi is proposed. Then, to simulate the interaction of young and old reinforced concrete, three-dimensional solid elements are adopted, taking into account two situations of the young and old concrete:fully bonded or sliding. At the last, the feasibility of this pier collision scheme has been studied.Finally, some more issues of study on safety evaluation of vessel-bridge collision were prospected and further researches on this area are summarized.
