With the increasement of steel output and development of residential industry year by year in our country, steel frame structure is also more and more widely used, and the structure is developing to top direction constantly. In traditional structure designing, joints are always simplified to complete rigid connection and ideal hinged connection, which can make designing greatly simplified. But in actual projects, joints are not complete rigid connection or ideal hinged connection, and they are semi-rigid connection between them. At present, many studies on semi-rigid connection have been carried out, but there are few studies on steel frame with semi-rigid connection, so lots of experimental research and theoretical analysis are needed. The paper is proposed in this context. In this paper, research status on semi-rigid connection and semi-rigid steel frame at home and abroad are reviewed, semi-rigid connection type, semi-rigid steel frame type and behavior of them are introduced. According to the finite element analysis in this paper, the basic theory of frame elasto-plastic analysis and nonlinear finite element analysis are introduced. Using equivalent force method to simulate high strength bolts pretension, which simplifies frame models. Compared equivalent force method to traditional method of simulating high strength bolts pretension, reliability of equivalent force method are verified.Using finite element analysis software ANSYS study seismic properties of rigid and end-plate semi-rigid steel frame under periodic load. Compare and analyze their lateral displacement, story drift, node deformation, hysteretic performance, ductility performance and energy dissipation ability. At last, point out the seismic performance advantages of the end-plate semi-rigid steel frame.Change endplate thickness, using ANSYS to simulate mechanical properties of six flush end-plate semi-rigid steel frames under periodic load. Analyze the influences law of endplate thickness to lateral displacement, story drift, node deformation, hysteretic performance, ductility performance and energy dissipation ability, which provides valuable reference data for study on design methods of flush end-plate semi-rigid steel frames.
