Ac machine drives have progressed quickly, because of the inherent defects of dc machine. It has been shown that high phase order (HPO) induction machine drives possess many advantages in some special applications. Many researchers have focused their research on multiphase or high phase order(HPO) induction machine drives. However, the control of the multiphase machine is more complex than three-phase ac machine. The character and development of six-phase induction machine control is introduced and summarized, and a novel control method is proposed in this paper, namely six-phase motor trapezoidal wave phase current control. By using the trapezoidal phase current waveform, the stator winding is separated into the field winding and the torque winding. The function which is about the field and torque control in directed and separated mode can be realized without the complex Park transformation.First, Six-phase induction machine model is established in the d-q rotating frame, analysing the six-induction machine control with RFOC. With the special phase current waveforms the performance of the six-phase induction motor is evaluated through theoretical. The value of K is calculated of the MMF balanced constant. An equation for the electromagnetic torque is derived and used in the theoretical calculations. The air gap MMF harmonics and the per phase self and mutual inductances are analysed and calculated, amongst other things, winding functions. Second, the drive system's dynamic and static performance is analysed by Matlab simulation model of Six-phase induction machine. Finally, theoretical calculation and simulation is verified by a small six-phase induction motor drive system under current control. The results of the simulation and experiment show linear relationship between the torque and torque current that MMF balance is maintained in the motor, and the drive system independent of the load condition. The drive system shows a rapid electromagnetic torque response speed under the special phase current control.
