This paper deals with grasses screening. There are four species leguminous forages and nineteen species grasses in the experiment. Based on much information about water and soil conservation, slope-ecological control, turfgrass and horticulture science, the experiment is conducted under mid-tropical zone and poor slope comprehensive condition. In order to study the adaptability of the grasses, the index is analyzed one by one, then comprehensive indices are analyzed. The main results are summarized as follows: The dynamics of coverage shows that: the coverage of fountain grass, crested dogtail and kikuyugrass are the highest all the time, the coverage of common berrmudagrass and weeping lovegrass are higher after three months from seeding. Tall fescues's coverage is a~so better all the time. Perennial ryegrass's is better during the first year. Colonial bentgrass is better during the first half of the year, and declined quickly after that. Indian couchgrass and bahia grass's is better during the latter period. The coverage of pea family is significantly high during some periods. Others?are not ideal. The color analysis shows that: Tall fescue's is the best in keeping green, followed by a]fafa and colonial bentgrass. But colonial bentgrasss color is poor during the winter-spring drought period. The color of weeping lovegrass, red fescue and crested dogtail is also better, But crested dogtail prefer more fertilizer. The color of leguminous forage is much perfect during rain season. The results of aboveground biomass variance analysis are that red clover, alfafa and crested dogstaiVs are significantly higher than the others, then fountain grass, Korean lovegass and tall fescue are followed. The correlation analysis of density shows that the first four densities are significantly positive correlative each other, and the last density of the first year is significant positive correlative with the density of the second year in the prosperous period. It's confirmed that the last density (28, October) of the first year is stable. Hierarchy analysis shows that the most important indices are resistant to draught, coverage, the aboveground biomass, tolerance to barren soil, biomass of roots among the 20 indices . Then all the grasses are divided into six types according to the evaluation grades and the hierarchy analysis model. That is the comprehensive evaluation about the grasses. With SAS Microsoft, Q-type system cluster is done according to the weight of the indices coming from the hierarchy analysis and the grades of the indices. The result is that all the grasses are divided into six types (r0.7) and it's almost consistent with the result of comprehensive evaluation but there is slightly difference about red clover, white clover and cocksfoot.
