The growth of the virtual plants means to reappear the plants' growth process visually and directly in computer. It uses the virtual reality technology to simulate the process of a real plant's growth in 3-D space with computer. It is of 3-D effect and visual function. The virtual plant not only can tell the plant's configuration but also is the description of the result which caused by plant's growth and changes of configuration. Plants are the most familiar object in nature which is related a lot to our daily life. Therefore, it is important and significant to research the growth of the virtual plants. There are two researching directions in this field: one is to simulate the plant's look which values the real vision; the other is to simulate the plant's growth process which values the reality of botany theory.With the development and gradual maturity of the computer graphics technology, the applied background in business, education, amusement, garden design and the virtual plants for the purpose of vision effect have developed rapidly. The plants simulated by the two main simulating software AMAP and Xfrog are bright-colored and true to life. They stand for the most advanced plant's configuration modeling method with plentiful and substantial results.However, in the agriculture and forestry, the research of the virtual plant's growth used in botany hasn't got to the applied phase. Because there are a lot of things haven't been done in plant's configuration modeling. There is scope for developing. It is still the key research area at present Moreover, the plants life is to be known by people. The plant biology model hasn't been consummated. The virtual plants are related to botany, agronomy, bionomics, mathematics, computer graphics and so on, which is a multi-subject field. They are widely related, large contented and complex. It involves so many subjects that it is impossible to describe even a single plant species' growth if only we use one or two models. It is the reason that makes the development of virtual plants' research slowly in agriculture and forestry field.The growth of the virtual plants used in agriculture and forestry is to guide the production by simulate the real plant's growth. It's different from the simulation which only pays attention to the vision effect. It must be based on the botany theory and accurate, reliable plant growth science. To simulate the growth process objectively and make the virtual plant serve for agriculture and forestry availably, we must combine the model which reflects the plant growth element factually with another model which builds the plant's configuration.This paper is trying to do this job, to find out a model which is fit for describing the dynamic plant's growth from many agricultural models-the model of dynamic crop growth. It can inosculate well with the plant configuration model, and control the simulation of the plants' growth...
