Countries all over the world view the hygrophilous ornamental plant as an important ecological balance and ornamental resources to make full use of.Jiaxing City has favorable natural conditions and a long history of farming. It is world-known as a land flowing with milk and honey. The region is full of lakes and rivers and is made up with rich hygrophilous plants resources.According to the resent statistics, there are 15 kinds of hygrophilous plants in the lakes and rivers and 37 in the paddy field. The major communities include Phragmites, Miscanthussacchariflorus,Zizania,Trapa,Magnolia grandiflora,Alternanthera philoxeroides,Eichhornia crassipes, etc. At present, the production and management of hygrophilous plants are mainly confined to the aquatic vegetables. Hygrophilous ornamental plants, especially as purely ornamental uses, are planted only in a small number of professional companies.Since the ecological value of hygrophilous ornamental plants has been increasingly recognized and the concept of ecological gardens has been put forward, the garden applications of hygrophilous ornamental plants have been paid more and more importance to.The initial production test to Magnolia grandiflora,Nymphaea tetragona, Thalia dealbata and Iris pseudoacorus showed that it is more commercial to cultivate hygrophilous ornamental plants in containers than in the field. With the development of the economy,to cultivate hygrophilous ornamental plants in containers will become a main cultivation method. According to the application survey of hygrophilous ornamental plants in the parks of Jiaxing,we found that the variety, quantity and application methods have been improved, but the problems are also stick out a mile.We need to strengthen research and development investments, professional training and etc.Since the 1980s,due to the industrial and agricultural pollution,as the Watery Region Jiaxing, the water pollution became increasingly serious;people didn't pay attention to the living environment for hygrophilous plants. The Water Region outlook gradually disappeared. At present, the water quality in Jiaxing is ClassⅣorⅤ,even inferiorⅤ.Because of the water quality, the water shortage is becoming increasingly obvious. The environment and resources affect the city's sustainable economic and social development chronically and directly, become a long standing problem of the city development. The water environment control was put on the important agenda at all levels of government.Hygrophilous plants, especially with certain ornamental value, have been gaining favor.Considering the advantage of location, soil conditions, cultivation habits, ecology and environmental needs of Jiaxing, hygrophilous ornamental plants have industrial development value and can form a certain industrial advantages in the Yangtze River Delta region.
