Ensiling is one of effective methods used to preserve the green color and juicy of the forage. Silage can undergo long-term preservation, and balance forage provision. Using silage additive is one of the most important technologies in the modern ensiling. Many kinds of additive have been used to promote silage fermentation process, among which, the lactic acid bacteria additive is the most important one.The aim of the present study is to isolate lactic acid bacteria strains from the silage,yoghurt and pickle, study their characteristics, select good strains and use them in producing silage from the maize stalk for improving silage quality. In total,15 strains were isolated and identified, 4 strains were identifie as L. paracasei(Lpc) , 4 strains were identifieas L. brevis(Lb) , 3 strains were identifie as Pediococcus acidilactici(Pa) , 2 strains were identifie as L.pentosus(Lp) , 2 strains were identifie as Streptococcus lactis(Sl).In order to obtain the fundamental technology for practical silage production, the fresh maize stalk was used as raw material, five treating methods were employed to produce silage in the lab scale experiment, including conventional ensiling ; adding stain Sl(s-9),Lpc(s-1),Lb(c-1); adding strain Pa(s-11),Lpc(s-1),Lb(c-1), adding Lpc(s-1),Lb(c-1),Sl(s-9),Yeast(Y) and adding strain Sl(s-9),Lp(z-3),Lb(c-1),Y . After 30 days of ensiling, some parameters including sensory assessment,pH,dry matter,crude ash,crude fiber,WSC,the ratio of silages′s ammonia nitrogen,total nitrogen,total P and Ca were determined and used to evaluate the quality of the silage produced by different treating method.The results showed that, in comparing with conventional silage adding lactic acid bacteria could improve the fermentation quality and nutritive value of the silage. Significant difference lied in the different treatment (p﹤0.05).The second treatment with the addition of strain Sl(s-9),Lpc(s-1),Lb(c-1) and the fifth treatment with the addition of Sl(s-9),Lp(z-3),Lb(c-1),Y showed the significant effect, which were obviously better than conventional silage and other treatments; Different corn variety and different growth period of the same variety also showed influence to silage effect.Generally, the ensiling effect of Huazhong-2 dough stage>the ensiling effect of Cainuo301 dough stage>the ensiling effect of Huazhong-2 heading stage.
