Objective:The purpose of this study was to investigate the Clinical Practice Performance and Self-Study Ability in nursing undergraduate, and to explore their relationship as well as their respective influencing factors.Methods:600 nursing undergraduate in clinic practice from 8 medical colleges in Hunan province were interviewed by the cluster sampling. The questionnaire was designed to evaluate the self-study ability and the clinical practice performance by general information, Measure Scale of Autonomous Learning Competencies and Clinical Practical Performance Self-Rating Scale. Data was analyzed by SPSS version 13.0. Statistic descriptions, T-test and variance analysis as well as Pearson correlation were mainly used in this research.Results:1. Total score of Clinical Practice Performance was 152.61±19.44. Scores of different dimensions were listed below from high to low: profession and self-development (3.70±0.52), management (3.64±0.53), communication (3.60±0.55), teaching instruction (3.56±0.50), critical thinking (3.55±0.53), clinical nursing (3.45±0.54), scientific research (3.22±0.51).2. In the general information part, the score of clinical practice performance was mainly affected by whether they like nursing, different working expectations, the satisfaction of different clinical training procedures and learning circumstances, whether they have feeling of success, whether nursing is the first choice of career, whether they have confidence for future career, different program of learning, etc. And the differences had statistical significance.3. Total score of self-study ability was 92.55±10.30. Scores of different dimensions were as follows:cooperation of learning was 23.94±3.53, capacity of self-management was 33.77±4.32, and information ability was 34.84±4.89.4. In the general information part, the score of self-study ability was influenced by whether they like nursing, different working expectations, the satisfaction of different learning circumstances, whether they have feeling of success, whether nursing is the first choice of career, whether they have confidence for future career, etc. And the differences were statistical significant.5. There were significant positive correlations between self-study ability and clinical practice performance (r=0.563, P≤0.01).Conclusions1. Self-study ability and clinical practice performance of nursing undergraduate were on general level.2. Clinical practice performance was mainly affected by whether they like nursing, different working expectations, the satisfaction of different clinical training procedures and learning circumstances, whether they have feeling of success, whether nursing is the first choice of career, whether they have confidence for future career, different program of learning, etc.3. Self-study ability was influenced by whether they like nursing, different working expectations, the satisfaction of different learning circumstances, whether they have feeling of success, whether nursing is the first choice of career, whether they have confidence for future career, etc.4. There was significant positive correlation between self-study ability and clinical practice performance.
