Objective: To evaluate the correlation between non-end stage diabetic nephropathy and retinopathy and the development of diabetic retinopathy on diabetic nephropathy patients. Methods:381 inpatient with DM from October 2007 to 2009 were enlisted. All selected samples were examined for the presence of DR and periodontal disease, and clinical data were collected including age, gender, diabetes duration, body mass index, urinary albumin, glycosylated hemoglobinA1c,total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein. SPSS version 17.0 was used for data entry and analysis. Theχ2 test, t-test and spearman correlate were performed. Results: There were no difference between the age, body mass index, glycosylated hemoglobinA1c,total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein.in diabetic patients among the three groups: non-DN, early-DN, and clinical-DN. The DR incidence rates of the contrast group and the research groups were 30.7%,55.2%,92.0% respectively(P<0.01). And the difference was significant among the three groups.Conciusion:The disease mechanism and mechanical index between diabetic nephropathy and retinopathy were similar (r=0.329, P<0.01).
