Objective: To investigate the morphological characteristics and phenotype of induced dendritic cells in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) in patients with cystic echinococcosis. Methods: The objects were divided into two groups: cystic echinococcosis (CE) group (N=15) compared with healthy donor (HD) group (N=15). The monocytes isolated from peripheral blood were cultured with GM-CSF and IL-4 to induce DC for 6 days. The morphological characteristics of DC were observed under inverted microscope and scan electron microscope. And the related phenotype of DC was analyzed by flow cytometery. Results: Compared with HD group, the CE group's DC has less exhibited extensive dendrites on their surfaces. And the expressions of CD86?HLA-DR?CD1a?CD80 were lower in CE group (P<0.05). Conclusions: Compared with HD group, the morphological characteristics of DC is less typical in the CE group, and the expressions of CD86?HLA-DR?CD1a?CD80 were lower in CE group which probably indicate that the vitality of DC in CE group becomes lower and the ability of stimulating T cells becomes weaker.
