The Research On The Similarities And Differences Between "faner" And "dao"

This paper is based on the achievements of the scholars, will put"Faner(反而)"and"Dao(�')"together to carry on checking against the research, set out from the Semantics analysis, find out its difference of the Semantics. Hoping we can have a more comprehensive understanding of the adversative adverb.This paper includes five parts.The first part is"the Semantics analysis on'Faner'and'Dao'". In this part, firstly we according to the authoritative lexicographical book of their interpretation, we find they have similar semantics: the one is the results they lead to has significant comparison to pre-contrast, the other is the sentence has tone transition."Faner"has adversative and progressive relation,"Dao"has adversative and concession. Then we have a detailed description about semantic relation.The second part for"Tone function and the Semantics analysis". This part inquiry into both to express the tone, match with other phrase languages in the sentence respectively. In respect of conveying mood,both of them can enhanced mood. They convey different moods as result of the distinction between semantic relations.The third part for"'Faner'and'Dao'at match with other phrase and discourse function". Their discourse function can be divided into the relationship of comparison with the dominant and the comparison with the invisible. The relationship of comparison with the dominant is the centripetal force of contrastive relationship; the comparison with the invisible is connotation. The forth part for"the location and the scope of focus". During communicating information,the focus of sentence containing"Dao"can located at the head,middle or end of a sentence while the focus of sentence containing"Faner"can only located at the end of a sentence. In general, the scope of focus of"Faner"is in the sentence while the scope of focus of"Dao"can be in or outside the sentence.In the fifth part we introduce the Relevance Theory. Based on the theory we analyze"Faner"and"Dao". The model of linkage of"Dao"is variety, both apply abundance contextual effect to the acceptor and spend less time and energy is suitable, but"Faner"only have the second model of linkage.
