The picturing of Children in traditional Chinese paintings features (thereafter also named Tong paints) children's postures and activities. The traditional Chinese paintings portraying children are subject to the figure painting but it has its obvious characteristics at the same time. The traditional Chinese paintings portraying children present us vivid pictures of local colors and customs of different places in different times. The traditional paintings portraying children amount to an indispensable part of Chinese figure painting especially the genre painting. Different works of the traditional paintings portraying children had ever come to play in the stage of Chinese paintings in large amount; what's more, many of them are famous in nowadays. The Tong Paintings rich in contents and characterized by its unique style and skills are completing the Chinese figure painting with the age's transition.The writer focuses on the Tong Paintings (from war time to Early Time of the Foundation of the New China). The writer defines it as a painting subject that mainly portrays children and their activities. This paper is dedicated to present readers a new angle of rereading this kind of painting subject. Through studying the compositions of the Tong Paintings from war time to Early Time of the Foundation of the New China, the writer exploits its origin, prosperity, declination and its revival and the reasons behind them.The paper aims to shower the readers with the charm of this classical treasure by exploring the masterpieces of certain active painters. Through draw on the experience of certain arm forms, this paper depicts the affection on porcelain-centered sister art caused by the painting subject of Tong Paintings for the purpose of promoting learning from each other. The paper touches on the ethic moral and the concealed meaning behind Tong Paintings so that the paper may partly assist in the following research of the concerned Tong paintings.
