The Criticism Of Hong Liangji And His <chunqiu Zuozhuan Gu>

The researches on Zuozhuan in Qing Dynasty developed continually according to the accurate and careful textual research style which was advocated by Gu Yanwu, Huang Zongxi and Wang Fuzhi, and moreover, it gradually changed to establish a new comment system from focusing on the similarities and differences of the three scholars and trivial textual researches. Hong Liangji, a Qianjia scholar, sorted out the successive relationship of the theories on Confucian classics between Wei and Jin Dynasty and Han Dynasty, then generally established a new comment system by compiling prevenient comments to explain the classic ,which was not only accurate but also logical.As Hong Liangji's masterpiece, Chunqiu Zuozhuan Gu adopted Hui Dong's academic method, which was doing professional researches on confucian classic and endeavoring to recover its original meanings given by Confucians in the Eastern Han Dynasty. The book concerned gloss, phonology, textual research on history and geography, and many other aspects. Many scholars had researched Zuozhuan by correcting Du Yu's Chunqiu Jingzhuan Jijie since the early Qing Dynasty, so did Hong Liangji. He absorbed others'advantages, collected materials widely and proved them seriously. Chunqiu Zuozhuan Gu which contains 4 volumes of original classic and 16 volumes of explanations has been the important works to research Zuozhuan until now.This paper analyzes Hong Liangji and his Chunqiu Zuozhuan Gu in the academic background of his own age. Firstly, it tries to point out Hong Liangji's academic features through studying his academic experiences that from a literator to a Confucian. Secondly, it tries to discuss the deep reasons why his Chunqiu Zuozhuan Gu achieved so much success while its academic methods and research ideas were similar with others. Only in this way, can we recognize the academic status of Chunqiu Zuozhuan Gu and give a proper evaluation to Hong Liangji's academic method.At the same time, this paper tries to analyze the shortages in Hong Liangji's Confucian classic works from two aspects. 1. The academic transition brought his unbalanced expertise; 2. Only correcting Du yu's theories showed that his research ideals were limited. All of this can provide some new perspectives to recognize Hong Liangji's Confucian classic achievements.Finally, this paper adequately affirms the academic achievements of Chunqiu Zuozhuan Gu by analyzing its inherited parts from the previous scholars and its influences to the later scholars.
